House: Days 12 and 13

Friday night was bedroom painting night, with a second coat in our bedroom and a first coat in the office. Aimee did yeoman’s work removing contact paper all night, one of the more frustrating tasks imaginable, but got it all off, so we’re ready to start anew. Today, we began our last weekend a little slowly, with a stop at Bed, Bath & Beyond for a bathroom mirror and some contact paper (no luck), but ended up getting a lot accomplished. I finished off the last coat in office and took care of the office closet, while Aimee made some trips to Home Depot and Anawalt and tackled the kitchen, which was a disaster of sunflower contact paper. She lugged a kitchen drawer to Home Depot so they could magically match the color, which seems to have worked, though we haven’t seen it dry yet.

Paint where the sunflowers were

We met our carpenter to give him the go-ahead on building our living room bookcase, and also pulled the tape off the walls and ceiling in the bedroom, which revealed both some clean lines (good) and some peeling trim paint (not so good).

The reveal

We’ve got a party for Aimee’s work tonight, which means a night off from the house for the first time, ever. Tomorrow is our last weekend day before we move, and we’ve got a lot on our plate, but hopefully we’ll get it all done.
