House: Days 10 and 11

A whole new worldYesterday, Aimee picked me up after work and we headed to Home Depot for another round of home outfitting. We picked up a new vanity (what a weird name; there’s not even a mirror involved), a new faucet, and paint for our bedroom (“Silvery Moonlight”), the office (“White”), and our ceilings. Thanks to our American Express Gift Card givers for all of that, as your generosity was extremely helpful and much appreciated.

After a bit of a late start, then, we managed to finish priming the office, and do one coat (maybe all we need) on the ceiling in the bedroom. I finally put two and two together and realized that whatever was making me wheeze and cough probably had something to do with that bedroom, as it was only happening when I spent time in there. Since it’s the only one with carpet, I assume it’s some leftover dander or something; all the more reason to tear the stuff out.

Today, our bathroom guys finished sealing the grout and putting everything back, and it looks really great. There are some minor plumbing issues I need to take care of with the sink, and we still have to tear down the wallpaper, paint the room, and deal with baseboards, but it looks so much better, and we have our own toilet now, which is great.

Tonight, Aimee tackled priming the closets while I finished some touch-ups on the bedroom ceiling and then taped and painted a first coat on the bedroom walls. I’m not sure the mask did anything but fog up my glasses, but I’m hoping I won’t wake up coughing at 3 am again. Can’t wait for that carpet to go…
