House: Day 9

March 11th, 2009 · No Comments

Last night I was by myself at the house, and it made me realize how helpful it is to have two people there, especially when neither of us knows particularly well what we’re doing. I got in around 5:30 and went right to work doing the second and final coat on the living room and dining room. It took about two and a half hours, and a can of paint, but I think I got it finished. I didn’t really stick around to inspect it all, because every time I looked at a spot, I felt like I could have gone back and fixed a little unevenness here or there, and it was going to drive me crazy. I’m sure once we move it and get it furnished, we won’t notice any of the little flaws here and there. I hope.

My next task was to finish up priming the bedrooms, and see what could be done about the problematic walls, one in each room, where the wallpaper had been. Short of using a belt sander to remove everything and start over, I’m not sure exactly what can be done. I laid on another coat of primer, and at least it took this time, and masked over the spots where the glue was showing through after only one coat, but I think it’s going to be a matter of painting it with our color of choice and seeing what happens. If it’s really terrible, we’ll have to do something about it, but if not, then we’ll live with it. Today we’re going to choose a paint color for the bedroom walls, and we’ll be able to see how it looks.

Grouted

Disregarding the unpainted wall, nasty wallpaper remnants, and lack of a baseboard, the bathroom is looking really great, I think. They’ve got just a few more spots to finish and seal up and then we can have our bathroom back.
