House: Day 8

Bathroom floorI had a meeting to work on a project with Michael in Santa Monica after work, so I could only stop by the house for a few minutes to check on Aimee’s progress – though it was long enough to get paint on my shirt and pants as I headed out the door. While I was gone, she primed the office and started on the bedroom, which we finished together when I got back around 8:30. Michael came over to check things out, so we’ll have a few people who’ve seen it in its in-between stages and will know what it took to get it where it eventually will be.

There’s something different, and not in a good way, about the wallpaper paste used to put on the plaid wallpaper (!) on one wall of each of the bedrooms. It didn’t come off nearly as easily as the stuff did in the living room, which, though there seemed to be miles of it, at least came off fairly willingly. The stuff in the bedrooms just doesn’t come off, and as much as we scrubbed, it only seemed to get worse. So, we decided to paint primer over what was left, and see what happened. It turns out it’s not so good. We can see the remnants of the paste through the paint, and it makes for a nasty contrast to the smoothness of the other walls. I’m going to see what I can do about it tonight, and hope for the best.

In other news, the bathroom is coming along nicely. Almost all of the tile is in, and today is the day for grout. We haven’t yet gotten our new vanity, and Aimee is angling for a new toilet, but we’ll see. Overall, it’s looking good, I think. Aimee’s off tonight, so I’ll be tackling the second coat on the living room, and touching up any missed spots of primer in the other rooms. I can’t tell if we’re on schedule or not, but at least we’re making progress.
