Communication breakdown

It’s been radio silence on the blog for a few weeks after the move and the trip to Portland. Now we’re back in town, getting settled in, and wondering why we still have no internet at home. I’ve been rendered speechless by frustration at Time Warner, and when Aimee says she feels the same way, then you know they’re really doing something wrong; hopefully, our umpteenth appointment this Saturday might clear things up. With such low expectations as we now have, just having someone show up will be a bonus. Thank goodness for my iPhone, the only way we can check email or get anything done online at home.

Portland was great, if a bit chilly, which made me remember that a beautiful spring day is so much better when you deserve it after a long, cold winter. It is, of course, the place we’d most like to live, with its perfect size, wonderful public transportation, and its great cultures of biking, beer brewing, and letterpress… But it’s not to be, at least not now. More here.

Speaking of where we’re living, we’re almost fully moved into our new place, and are getting to know the neighborhood. The move itself was miraculous and swift; the guys from Delancey Street were incredible, getting everything out of our house, into the truck, over to our new place, and out of the truck in under three hours. We spent the next weekend getting unpacked in the living and dining rooms, and have been working on the bedroom and office in our spare time since then. It looks great, and it feels nice to have a place all to ourselves.

I’ve tried three different running routes this week, and am trying to find a good, solid three-miler that doesn’t involve too much waiting at stop lights. I’m close, but not quite there yet. We’ve been getting accustomed to Pavilions, our new grocery store, which seems to be a Vons (with an extra P-A-I-L-I) with nicer decor. It’s owned by Safeway, so it’s back to yogurts from Lucerne, which reminds me of our pre-Carrs days in Alaska, all Lucerne, all the time. We’re having friends over this weekend, so it’s our goal to get the place respectable, free of boxes, and all cleaned up by then. We’ll see if we can make it.
