A Kodak instant photo from my sixth birthday, in February of 1981, a few months before we moved from this house to the Hillside. I’m wearing my personalized BRIAN shirt, possibly a gift on that day, while my dad stands behind me, holding a gift my grandmother made, a quilt made up in part by images she sewed inspired by photos of our family. You can even see me, in a bathing suit, walking in front of the two-tone green fence in the square at the lower right. I’m standing next to the chest that was handed down to my mother from her parents, and which still sits in the family room of our house in Anchorage today.
