House: Day 4

Living Room

Yesterday morning, I headed up to North Hollywood to buy our bathroom tile, making sure to get enough square feet of six-inch tile for the floor and walls, and the proper number of quarter-rounds and beaks, which I definitely didn’t know the meaning of a few days ago. They had everything we needed in stock, so we should be set, unless something happens. Our bathroom is currently in a pretty strange state: the sink is in our bedroom, the toilet in on a sheet of plywood on top of the tub, and the floor and walls are covered in drying cement.

Bathroom

I met Aimee back at the house after work, and she had nearly finished the last wall of the living room. While I finished the top sections, she went on to tackle the first bedroom. Something strange went on when they originally hung the wallpaper in that room; luckily, it’s only on one wall plus a trim piece on all four walls (and the closet) near the ceiling. They used too much paste in some spots, and we ended up taking off some paint as well as the paper and glue. Oh well. I finished off the living room, which made us feel good about our progress, and when we both went to work on the bedroom, we were able to finish that off as well. It’s nice to be able to throw your trash right on the floor, knowing the carpet is coming up in a few days anyway.

Bedroom

We’ll be heading back tonight to continue on the second bedroom, which shouldn’t take too long, while more work will be done on the bathroom during the day today. I can’t even imagine how much work we can get done when we can actually spend the whole day there, but we’ll find out this weekend. Our goal is to be ready to paint by Sunday, which means we finally need to choose a paint color…
