Two Ms in “Castellammare”

A quick rundown of the weekend, as we’re already into another busy week and I can’t seem to keep up: first, dinner at Simon LA as part of Dine LA week, which made the pricey restaurant somewhat more affordable, and made for a nice evening out. Saturday morning we walked around Castellammare (Walking L.A. tour #1, our thirteenth so far) in Pacific Palisades, home to beautiful ocean views, architecturally improbable cliff dwellings and surprising mundane ranch houses, as well. Oh, and lots of steps:

Castellammare

More photos of Castellammare here. Saturday afternoon, I caught this year’s documentary short nominees, putting me over half way (30 out of 58) as I try to catch as many films as I can before the 24th.

Sunday morning, I tackled the Redondo Beach 10k, another step in my road to recovery, and while it was a little slower than average and a few minutes off my best, I felt pretty good, and had a decent excuse: a downpour, which went on for the entire race, plus the half hour it took us to walk to the start and get registered before the race began. It wasn’t the most pleasant of conditions for a run, but it could have been worse, and it wasn’t very cold, which was nice. Next up is a half marathon, I think, in a few months, and we’ll see what happens from there. Sunday afternoon, we did some letterpress work on a friend’s press, and made some nice Change of Address cards, three months after the fact. We got home in time to catch up on the Super Bowl on TiVo, and though Aimee’s Pats didn’t pull through, we enjoyed the excitement and craziness of a terrific game. This week is full of stuff already; I started my first day in the new job today, training my successor in my old job, and we’ve got a dinner party on Thursday and are off to San Francisco for the weekend on Friday. Busy, busy, busy.
