Syracuse Sunday

IMG_2432.JPGWe used a reading by David Sedaris as an excuse for an afternoon trip to Syracuse to look around. We enjoyed a walk around the campus, dinner at Alto Cinco (a favorite from Cinefest), and a fun evening at the Landmark Theater. What an ornate, amazing place, in such a desolate downtown. We ate at the one restaurant that was open, Clark’s Ale House, with their multitude of taps and one very popular roast beef sandwich. The sandwich seemed to be the only thing anyone was ordering, unless you counted the slab of brie and unopened bag of Nabisco saltines that also constituted a food order – very McSorley’s. It was fun to see Sedaris again; some new stories, some work that will be appearing in New Yorkers, some journal entries, and another book recommendation. He’s always great to see, though everywhere we see him seems to be a little larger: the basement of the Booksmith, the expanded basement of the Booksmith, Symphony Hall, the Landmark… I guess that’s what you get.
