Kris Kristofferson Day

kris_kristofferson.jpgYesterday we enjoyed two screenings with Kris Kristofferson at the Dryden, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid at 2pm and Cisco Pike at 8. It was a long, busy afternoon into evening, but it was a lot of fun; he’s a charming, funny, interesting guy, and he’s had a fascinating film career. They’d put together a clip reel of his career, and he seemed genuinely touched (and embarrassed, he said), having not ever seen it all laid out together like that.

Pat Garrett was the 2005 video-only re-edit, so it was projected from Digi Beta, which looked good but paled in comparison with a reel of 35mm that was screened after the Q & A to give us a look at what the 1988 re-release looked and sounded like in comparison. Cisco Pike was totally new to me, an interesting ’70s film, one of those anomalies that seems like it would never get made today, with Gene Hackman, Karen Black, Wavy Gravy, Huggy Bear, and Viva from the Factory… Very strange cast. A few of us went out the Old Toad afterwards, where we hadn’t been in awhile. Strange to think there are less than three months of school left.
