#8 Naugatuck: Sao Paio 5k Road Race, 9/5/15

I spent the six weeks after the Somers race trying to take it easy. I didn’t run, but we did walk a lot in Ireland, and I didn’t lay off quite as much as I would like to have, but that’s life. By the time September rolled around, I was getting a little antsy. I’d seen a doctor, had an x-ray, and wasn’t feeling any pain, so I decided to give it a go.

Naugatuck is only about 15 minutes away (and had the added attraction of being home to Grace’s kindergarten teacher, which was an exciting thought for Grace), so this race seemed like a good opportunity. I had also received my 169 Towns shirt in the meantime, so I wore it for the first time, and was greeted with smiles, high-fives, and instant conversations with all my fellow members.

It was a charmingly low key race, with a small field, and I felt pretty good, if completely exhausted. I had run a total of a mile in the last six weeks, so it was a shock to the system, but I made decent, if a little slower, time and managed third in my age group. We even won bottle of wine in the post-race raffle, so despite (or thanks to?) the fact that Aimee and the girls spent the race in the Dunkin Donuts, it was a successful day for all.
