#5: Plainfield, GE 5K Road Race, 7/19/15

Another weekend, another race, right? These towns aren’t going to run themselves… A quick scan of the spreadsheet of Connecticut races on the group’s website yielded a hit in Plainville, about a 40 minute drive up Rt. 8. I’d never been there, or really heard of the place, but when I arrived, it was clear how big the race was for the town. There were more than a thousand runners, and the race supported a cause dear to Plainville residents, benefiting a foundation set up to honor the lives of William Petit’s daughters and wife, who died in a home invasion in 2007.

It was a hot day, a blistering 85° at 9 am when the race started. It was a flat course, and the people who lived along the route were kind enough to set up sprinklers spraying the runners as we went by, but I still felt pretty sluggish. I’m still working out a pre-race (heck, even a mid-race) plan, whether it’s better to run the day before, take a day off before, two days off before, and so on. I ended up doing fine, matching my time in Milford from two weeks before. I grabbed a few donut holes for the girls, and headed home.
