50 States: Rhode Island

These states are all out of order at this point, but I saved Rhode Island, where, I’ll have everyone know, I once sang in an a cappella group in the East Greenwich High School cafeteria, until this point in the chronology because even though I’d been there a number of times before 2005, it wasn’t until then that the most important state in my Ocean State history happened: our wedding. It seems sort of strange to think that we I got married in Rhode Island; neither Aimee nor I (nor our families) are from there, and we’ve never lived there, but it was the only place that made sense when we were planning the event. We’d spent summer weekends at Aimee’s family’s place in Portsmouth, and the spot where we got married, overlooking the ocean, was absolutely beautiful. The whole weekend was a bit of a blur, but it was perfect: all our family and friends there, great weather, molten chocolate cakes, a photobooth, embarrassing speeches from parents and siblings – what more could we ask for?

Only five more to go.
