Bible-Toting Bouncers

Last night brought our first post-cd release Washington Social Club show, upstairs at the Middle East. We started with a delicious dinner at Centro, where we ran into Hilary and her fiance Terence, whom I hadn’t seen in at least a year or so. The meal was delicious, and the atmosphere was great.

Marty, Randy, and Olivia were sitting outside when we got to the show, so we sat around and hung out with them for an hour and talked about their tour of the west – Portland great, Seattle not so, Utah too late for all the Mormon punks, and Chicago and Austin the best of all. We went in for the last few songs of the second band on the bill, a sort of Ben van Folds-Morrison with a twist of Max Weinberg. I linked to WSC’s site because it’s new, now that they’re on a label, and the fact that there were two opening bands and WSC were headlining is also new. They played a tight 40-minute set – things run like clockwork at these clubs where thirty or forty bands play every week – and sounded much fuller and more composed, lots of backing vocals going on and a sense that they were confident and having fun.

Marty yelped and stared and staggered around, and we all had a great time.
