On Your Belly!

Saturday was a touristy day in Boston for Aimee and me, as we hit both Fenway and Faneuil Hall, as well as a day for meeting up with friends we hadn’t seen in awhile. We started with a little packing in Aimee’s soon-to-be old apartment, and then walked to the park to see the some interleague play, Philly style, thanks to George. Aimee did her best to pretend to be George as we watched the game from section 24, but the reality was, George couldn’t make the game, and was kind enough to overnight (FedEx Saturday Delivery!) his tickets to me so we could go instead. The game was fun; great seats, a surprising number of vocal Phillies fans, and nice weather. Bronson Arroyo (not to be confused with ex-Sox pitcher Rolando Arrojo) got shelled, most notably by big Jim Thome, the man with the one-armed warmup swing.

We knew Kevin and Elisia were going to be at the game, but we hadn’t exchanged numbers or planned to meet, so we’d given up on running into one another. Enter Eagle-Eye 20/15 Vision Aimee, who spotted them in the first inning about thirty rows ahead of us. I chased down Kevin a few innings later, and we enjoyed an eighth inning chicken sausage in the new “Big Concourse” once the game had been all but decided, and made plans to meet for dinner later. After the game, Aimee and I zipped over to the REI in the Landmark Center to meet Josh so we could register for the Muddy Buddy the next day.

By 6:00, we were in Faneuil Hall, where we shopped around and played tourist for a few minutes. Case in point (it’s a lobster):

We met Kevin and Elisia and had dinner at Zuma. And, if that wasn’t enough, we then made our way over Tremont Street to Silvertone for Tim and Mari’s engagement party. Not that we’d miss such an occasion anyway, but we were especially happy to be there in light of the shortsighted work on the part of the Chicago Marathon, scheduling the race on the same day as Tim and Mari’s wedding. It was great to see them, as well as Todd and Renee, Jess, Mercer, and all the rest of the folks from the Putnam Ave./Perry St. clan. Nice to be called “Knuckles” more than “Brian” for one night out of the year, too.

By 6:15 the next morning, we were on the road for Freetown State Forest for the Muddy Buddy. Before (note distinguishing features on Josh’s bike):

And after:

Josh started on the bike, and after the first stage, left the bike and started running. When I got to the end of the first stage, I did the obstacle and grabbed the bike. We alternated like this over five stages, and finished with a crawl through a huge pit of mud. The race was tons of fun, with just the right amount of trail riding, obstacles, and mud. Well, there was a lot of mud, and the Freetown Fire Dept. was there with a water truck to make sure it stayed muddy. We dove right in and made the most of it, and finished in a respectable time, sometime under an hour.
