#3 Derby: Herbie Rollinson Memorial 5K, 6/29/14

After running my first Mt. Washington Road Race on the 21st, I thought I’d try to keep things going and sign up for a local 5K later on in the month. I’d never been to Derby, though it’s not far from Woodbridge, and we were free that weekend, so it fit the bill. It was a small race, with just 63 finishers; little did I know that the size of the race would increase my chance for athletic glory. It was a nice little out and back on the Derby Greenway, along the Naugatuck River, and the family had a nice area to play in while they waited for me to come by.

I felt good, didn’t get passed by too many people, and took a few minutes off my time from the Cheshire race. We left not long after I finished, so I wasn’t around for the awarding of the medals, which isn’t usually an issue. Apparently, though, I won my age group — 30-39, at age 39? — and received a medal in the mail a few days later.
