Movie Week III, Day 3

September 21st, 2010 · No Comments

Pacific’s The Grove Stadium 14 The American Tuesday, 9/21/10, 7:35 pm

Price: $12.75, plus $2 for validated parking. Concessions: None Audience: 7 people in Theater 9, which seemed like it seated about 100. Trailers/advertising: Trailers for Morning Glory, Hereafter, Conviction, Somewhere, and Let Me In. Projection: 35mm platter, looked good, but for some reason, an exit sign was installed on the masking, sticking into the screen. Nice.

I haven’t been to this theater too many times, but it’s a decent multiplex in the massively popular Grove shopping complex. It does have a few things going for it, including some beautiful photographs of the interiors of L.A.’s great movie palaces, a fountain outside designed by the same company that created the Bellagio fountain in Las Vegas, and the food of the Farmer’s Market (including Loteria, where I had dinner) nearby.

I enjoyed the film, a meditative and tense and strikingly European film, for something showing in a multiplex. I guess it’s just the theaters I’m choosing, but this is proving to be a pricey week of movies. No discounts, no passes, and getting more expensive by the day.
