Dark night

Dark sky

Driving to trivia last night was a strange experience: it started out darker than normal, and just kept getting darker as we headed up the 101, until we crested a hill after the pass and saw bright sunlight creeping out from under an entire sky filled with smoke from the fires. The photo I took is blurry and unclear, but you can see the sunlight peeking out from under the smoky sky in the distance.

As for trivia itself, we played well and came in a close second, after spending the entire night just one point behind the eventual winners. We gambled once and played it safe the rest of the time, and everything paid off; we did as well as we could, but it wasn’t quite good enough. The week before, we had a great night, leading from wire to wire with only five team members. That was in sharp contrast to the week before that, where we had eight people on our team and crashed and burned, failing on every double-down we did and getting a zero on three out of seven rounds. Bigger is not necessarily better. Now if only I could do as well in my NFL picks as we do in trivia; the weekend before last, I managed to pick exactly two out of fourteen games correctly, and I was actually trying.

Aimee has collected info on dozens of apartments from Craigslist, so we have a packet of ideas to work with and we’re starting to get a handle on some possibilities. We’ve become accustomed to some things that will be hard to let go – two car parking, washer and dryer in the apartment – but maybe we’ll get lucky and find a place that fits the bill.
