Busy with a capital ‘B’

We had a super-packed weekend this….weekend, which was a lot of fun and good for us, I’m sure, but we’re both beat now. Saturday, we went for a 5 mile hike with some other Amherst alums as well as Williams and Wesleyan folks in Temescal Canyon, which was a lot of fun and a nice challenge, but probably not the best idea when you’ve got a race the next day. We had lunch on “Skull Rock,” though we never determined why it was called that, and returned to the parking lot after about three hours of hiking.

In the afternoon, I went to a screening of a friend’s film at the Asian Film Fest at the Sunset 5, which I’d never been to before and probably won’t again – what a strange place. We enjoyed dinner at the Village Idiot on Melrose – excellent sausages and some delicious Craftsman 1903 lager from Pasadena – and dropped in on Chris’s party a few blocks away. We had an early alarm clock the next morning, though, so we headed home by ten or so.

Sunday morning, we ran the Santa Monica Classic, and enjoyed the beautiful day on the water, though it was noticeably hotter than it has been in a long time. I took about two minutes off my personal best 10k pace, and came in under 50 minutes for the first time, which felt good. Aimee is now the master of the 5k in Santa Monica, having run three there now; if it ain’t broke… I caught the afternoon screening of Spider-Man 3 – meh – and then we had a nice walk to dinner and shopping at Whole Foods. I got some Wha-Guru Chews and some fruit leathers and saw k.d. lang in the yogurt section. Phew.
