Floating holiday

December 29th, 2006 · No Comments

I found out on Thursday that I still had my ‘floating holiday’ for 2006 left to use, and only one day left in which to use it, so I took today off to spend with Aimee, who returned from Boston last night. We started with breakfast at Eat Well on Beverly, a place Aimee runs past all the time but where we’d never stopped to eat. We consulted our new guidebook Walking L.A.: 36 Walking Tours Exploring Stairways, Streets and Buildings You Never Knew Existed, and chose walk #15, West Hollywood, for our first foray.

Schindler House

It started at the Schindler House on Kings Road not too far from our place, and took us down Melrose to the Pacific Design Center and back. The Schindler House was great – I wish we’d known and taken the family there during Thanksgiving, but maybe another time. Interesting architecture and interesting exhibitions. We had a cookie at Sweet Lady Jane and enjoyed a tea (or a tonic, maybe?) at Elixir Tonics & Teas on the way. Photos of the tour here.

Pacific Design Center

After a little rest, we headed to the ArcLight for a screening of Notes on a Scandal – good performances, ehh movie – and then to The Dresden in Los Feliz for a dinner of appetizers and entertainment from the legendary Marty & Elayne. “The Lady is a Tramp,” “Luck Be a Lady,” “Satin Doll,” “Muskrat Love”… What a scene.
