Spooky comes to town

I’m looking forward to finally seeing “Rebirth of a Nation” tonight (thanks to Bostonist for a nice preview of the event). I almost ended up going to Mass MoCA for a ‘work-in-progress’ screening awhile ago, but this will be better. An article in The Crimson today shows how close the HFA came to getting Paul Miller here to Harvard a few years ago, as he’d done some of his research for the project using the HFA’s print. I remember having dinner one night after TA’ing Bruce’s video art class, and he and Joan Jonas kept talking about this nice young man named Paul who was doing all of these interesting things; only later in the conversation did they reveal that he also went by the name DJ Spooky.

I’ll be interested to see what kind of projection he’ll be using tonight. My bet is that it won’t involve constructing a projection booth for a massive, hot, and incredibly noisy 35mm projector like we did for Mystic River. Smart move.
