With friends like these…

Aimee and I attended Mark’s one man show at The Casali Group in Davis Square, between Sacco’s Bowl Haven and Meacham Road in Davis Square. I had no idea he painted, much less that he painted really interesting, intriguing interior scenes, devoid of people but full of light that is beautifully rendered. Aimee and I vowed to buy one of his paintings sometime in the next year; perhaps we could commission one if all of the nice ones are sold, which they were well on their way to being. I finally got to meet Mark’s friend and fellow artist Peter, with whom I chatted about digital photos and cult movies on dvd – a nice guy to talk to at a party.

The event was a little on the incredible swanky side, with a martini bar, waiters with all sorts of lamb/hummus/feta pizza and organic potato popovers and things, plus a massive table of sushi, and a room full of bread and dips (plus Dont Look Back and The Last Waltz on a huge flatscreen tv). The reception/gallery space is occupied by an architecture firm by day, so even the bathrooms were strikingly designed, with a massive trapezoidal mirror extending eight feet up to the ceiling in a triangular-shaped room. Everyone from work made it there to support Mark, though he certainly didn’t need our help – the place was packed, and we were proud.
