I had to make a hotel reservation for a visiting guest today and when I told the guy at the hotel my last name, he informed me that Meacham was the name of his horse when he was growing up. Same spelling, apparently a relative’s maiden name. Now it’s part of his email addresses, user IDs, and passwords. “I think of Meacham every day,” he said, somewhat wistfully. “Beautiful horse.” And I thought Mrs. Holloway in seventh grade science class was the first person to use “Meacham” as a first name.
