I&#8217;m pretty sure my first visit to the state would have come during my first visit to Dartmouth, as we usually ventured across the river to the the <a title=\"Dartmo.: All that Remains of Lewiston, Vermont\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dartmo.com\/lewiston\/index.html\">lost town of Lewiston<\/A> and to the general store in White River Junction when we were in town.  I recall college road trips to Brattleboro, just up I-91, and Burlington, on the way to Montreal.  <\/p>\n<p>Aimee and I also enjoyed a couple of great Vermont trips during our Boston days, <a title=\"Two on a raft\" href=\"http:\/\/www.doubleperf.com\/blog\/archives\/2004\/02\/17\/two_on_a_raft.html\">skiing in Stowe<\/A> and enjoying the <a title=\"Restaurant Swisspot, Stowe, Vermont\" href=\"http:\/\/www.restaurantswisspotvt.com\/lunch.htm\">fondue at Swisspot<\/a>, and a surprise trip up to Burlington in April of 2003 to see Wilco, whom we saw wandering around town before the show. <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Flickr: Explore photos from your 50 States set on the map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/btmeacham\/sets\/72157604628502830\/map\/\">The map<\/A> gets crowded in New England.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vermont, home to Brattleboro, Burlington, the bus station in White River Junction, narrow country roads, skiing, and the Ben &#038; Jerry&#8217;s factory tour in Waterbury &#8211; that&#8217;s Vermont in a nutshell for me.
