{"id":4223,"date":"2017-05-06T20:48:35","date_gmt":"2017-05-07T00:48:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.doubleperf.com\/blog\/?p=4223"},"modified":"2017-07-02T21:04:11","modified_gmt":"2017-07-03T01:04:11","slug":"nitrate_at_the_museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.doubleperf.com\/blog\/archives\/2017\/05\/06\/nitrate_at_the_museum.html","title":{"rendered":"Nitrate at the Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In part as a matter of convenience for <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.doubleperf.com\/blog\/archives\/2017\/05\/02\/back_to_la.html\">FIAF Congress<\/A> attendees, the third <A HREF=\"https:\/\/eastman.org\/nitrate-picture-show\">Nitrate Picture Show<\/A> was scheduled right on the heels of FIAF L.A., so after a very brief return to New Haven, allowing enough time to surprise the girls and take Lucy to school, I headed to Rochester. Nothing like a six hour flight followed by a six hour drive to get you ready to&#8230;sit in a cinema all weekend. <\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/btmeacham\/34872654643\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"IMG_6541\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4271\/34872654643_92eb97a714.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"IMG_6541\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/btmeacham\/35512714192\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" title=\"IMG_6542\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4273\/35512714192_364e04d65c_c.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"666\" alt=\"IMG_6542\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The festival was excellent as ever, with some great films I&#8217;d seen, seen anew (ANCHORS AWEIGH, NIGHT AND THE CITY), some surprising revelations (THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER), and one or two miraculous screenings\u2014first, Ozu&#8217;s EARLY SUMMER, which was absolutely luminous, and IN A ROMAN GARDEN, which wasn&#8217;t much of a film, but was screened on a 104-year-old print, which almost brought tears to my eyes just thinking about it. <\/p>\n<p>It wouldn&#8217;t have been a trip to Rochester without a few stops at Wegman&#8217;s, lunch at Sticky Lips, and my favorite Airbnb off Park Ave. The NPS has quickly become an integral part of the film archive festival scene, and I look forward to returning again next year. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In part as a matter of convenience for FIAF Congress attendees, the third Nitrate Picture Show was scheduled right on the heels of FIAF L.A., so after a very brief return to New Haven, allowing enough time to surprise the girls and take Lucy to school, I headed to Rochester.
