It’s a big enough place that probably has a lot of races, so I was one of the only 169ers there today, for a small but very well-run race. Most races have a sort of connection between the size of the field and the level of organization: a race with a few hundred people is usually well marked, heavily staffed, and so on, while smaller races may not have chip timing, or even bibs. This one, however, was different: there were maybe 50 people running, tops, but they had food for a few hundred, trophies for every age group, and more police escorts and closed streets than any other race its size. It was a good run, though running under I-84 on-ramps and overpasses isn’t the most scenic of routes, it was fine. I made an effort to catch one guy near the end, passing him and holding him off in the final tenth of a mile. When we finished, I learned he was 16 years older than me, and quickly adjusted my sense of accomplishment.

Bob Veillette 5K Road Race | 5K | 10/1/16 | 21:54 | 30/169

I’ve been to the movies in Waterbury, but that’s about it.
