I was interviewed on the phone yesterday by a reporter from the Anchorage Daily News<\/a>, for a story she’s working on about “Espresso Hut culture” in Anchorage. She had found my photo project<\/a> detailing the 100+ shacks I’ve documented over the past six years, and since mine is pretty much the only legitimate result of a search on the subject, and since it seems no one else has written about or studied this phenomenon, she interviewed me. <\/p>\n

The interview was fun, though I really didn’t feel like I had a whole lot to offer. The reporter asked me how I started taking the photos, which one was my favorite, and what I thought about why they were so many of them in Anchorage and south-central Alaska in general. Words I couldn’t think of while being interviewed: “ubiquitous” and “vernacular architecture.” Questions that came to mind afterwards: “Hut” or “shack” – which is a better name? And will I sound creepy having told her I never actually talk to anyone in the shacks and rarely order a drink, but simply photograph them from a safe distance like some sort of pre-fab trailer stalker?
