On Saturday, I visited the Central Library for the first time to see the exhibition of drawings by Richard Neutra. The show was terrific, and featured drawings of a lot of buildings that were never built, which were some of my favorites of the show. Too bad the Von Sternberg House is no longer around, but I enjoyed imagining it from the drawing below.

I stopped in at Lost Souls Cafe beforehand, a nice, cavernous space down an alley downtown, and I had lunch afterwards at Cole’s, where I hadn’t been since they renovated the place. That was one tasty turkey French dip, wow.

On Sunday, I drove up to the Skirball, another place I’d never been before, and got to the Superhero Comic Book exhibition the day it was closing.

I’m not much of a comic book person, and look at pretty much everything vaguely comic book or graphic novel-related through the lens of Tintin, but there’s nothing like seeing this stuff in person. The sketches, panels, and original art pieces were really great to see up close, and I learned a lot about a lot of artists I didn’t know much about. I could have done without the repetitive recorded warning for kids to “stay away!” from the ‘kryptonite,’ which went off every time a kid stepped near it, much to their delight.
