Over the winter, I started talking to Grace about running a 5K, since we had a good time in the shorter kids run in Alaska last year and she has talked a number of times about running in gym class. Today was the day, and I think we picked a good one. A big race, nearly 600 runners, with a band, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon animals, and cotton candy at the end. I told her not every race was like this…

She ran pretty consistently for the first two miles, and then off and on over the last mile, with a good strong push on the high school track that was the final stretch to the finish line. I’m not sure I would have been up for 3 miles when I was six; according to the results, she was the youngest runner, and she had a great time. We’re looking forward to many more in the future.
