With everyone else away, I had the opportunity to tackle two first-time races this weekend. In Danbury, where I’d only ever been for a postcard show almost 20 years ago, I ran the Spirit of Danbury 5K. It was another small race, just over 50 runners, and I found myself running near the front in the all-downhill start. I think I did a decent job keeping myself at the right pace; I figured the kids who sprinted out and flew down the hill would soon tire, and though they didn’t, I didn’t go so fast as to wear myself out, either. I had a little left in the tank to pass one guy on the final uphill of the out-and-back course, and finished seventh overall.
