I headed out early on Halloween morning to reach Ellington, an “elusive” town on the opposite end of the state. It was a chilly morning when I arrived, but it warmed up enough for me to leave behind the long sleeve shirt I’d brought. The race started a bit of the middle of nowhere on a road, down the street from Brookside Park in Ellington. I felt pretty good, and the course was pretty flat, if a little desolate in parts, and I ended up turning in my fastest 5K time in more than a year. This strange new pattern of never-ending training for more frequent, short races seems to be doing something, for better or worse.
