2002 brought my first paid work in the field of film archives, a summer job working at the Harvard Depository in Southborough, Massachusetts, checking prints in the Harvard Film Archive collection for acetate deterioration.
Here I am on May 8, documenting the fact that I was actually doing this (and that I had actually grown a beard). The prints were in cans, in boxes, on shelves up to sixty feet up in the refrigerated air, so I spent my days bundled up on a cherry picker, going from shelf to shelf.
Luckily, 2002 also brought my first iPod, and I remember listening to a lot of Fountains of Wayne and Phantom Planet, for some reason. Luckily, I soon got a desk job at the HFA, and said goodbye to the depository, but it was a good place to start, I suppose.
