Moving on

For the better part of the last year, the possibility of moving back to the East Coast has been in the air at our house. I applied for a position at Yale University back in July, 2012, and over the last few months, beginning in January, I worked my way through the interview process, finishing with a visit to New Haven in April. I was offered the job in May, and we leave in less than a month.

It’s a pretty momentous move for us, but not an unexpected one. We’ve loved our seven years in Los Angeles, but never expected to stay forever. It’s hard to imagine leaving my current job, though, and we’ll be sad to say goodbye to the friends we’ve made here. Then there are the more tedious parts of the transition, which we’ve been dealing with lately: packing up the house, staging it for open houses to attract buyers, and moving ourselves and our stuff (cars? photobooth? ugh…) east. I start the new job in mid-July, and finished up at the archive on Friday. Time to get the house ready and head to Alaska for a week for a visit with the folks, some enforced relaxation, a half marathon, and my 20th high school reunion.
