We have a long family history in Colorado, but since Grandma passed away and dad’s childhood home was sold, we’ve had fewer reasons to return as a family. My dad’s high school reunion and the fact that Aimee and Grace hadn’t met much of our extended family in the area was a good excuse to bring together as many of us as we could late last month.

Aimee and Grace and I came out from California, Mom and Dad from Alaska, Scott and Camden from Virginia, Barb from Nebraska, and Steph and her family from Wyoming, and we all met up in Loveland for the weekend. We rented a house and had a great time, mostly watching the young cousins get to know each other. I had the chance to go for a nice long run along the bike path (one month to go until the Seattle Marathon, tick tock), and we enjoyed a walk through Grandma and Grandpa’s old house, now undergoing renovation and restoration by its new owner.

Scott and I re-visited Scotty O’Brian’s for a drink, and hashed out our plans for a long-awaited trip to the UK next summer, to attend the Olympics and drive around the country on a nerd holiday (castles, steam trains, breweries, and so on). I can’t wait.

One afternoon, Scott and Dad and I went to the New Belgium Brewery for a tour, which was pretty amazing. I’ve been on many a brewery tour, but never had the chance to see a bottling line in action. Mesmerizing…
