Christmas Fondue

Things have finally settled down a bit after an enjoyable and busy week here. Yesterday, we spent the morning at the Getty Villa, checking out the exhibitions and wandering through the gardens. It was nice to be back after our first visit there last year, and it was great to see the sun again after a rainy few days around Christmas. I got a call from Amanda while we were there, letting me know that she and Darius would be in L.A. by the end of the day, which was a nice surprise.

We returned home via The Counter in Santa Monica for a custom-made turkey burger. Mine was good, if a little odd; I feel like I make some strange decisions when the choice is left completely up to me – which is how I ended up with both pickles and dried cranberries on my burger.

Amanda and Darius came by around dinner time, and we headed to Palms for Elvis and some Pad See Ew. We had a bit of a wait, but we were being serenaded by Elvis, so it was fine. It was great to catch up with them and hear the news from Kirkland and their adventures on their west coast road trip.

This morning, Dad and I headed up to Pasadena to check out the Holiday Motor Excursion, primarily of “Brass-Era” cars (pre-1920s or so), which was a lot of fun. A giant parking lot filled with cars the likes of which I’d never seen before; some familiar makes like Fords, Packards, and Oldsmobiles, marquee names like Rolls Royce and Duesenberg, and tons of smaller makes I wasn’t familiar with like Amilcar, Pope, and EMF.
