50 States: Missouri (25)

50 States: Missouri

Missouri, the gateway to the west, is half-way through my list of visited states, and it’s already June first, leaving only 27 days until we head to Hawaii, so I’d better get going. I gained an unexpected connection with Missouri when I started collaborating with a photobooth enthusiast living in St Louis on Photobooth.net, the world’s premiere destination for old-school photobooth knowledge (and you’d better believe there was a big fight for that title…), which is now more than three years old. Tim has become a great friend over the years, and his wife Heather put me up when I flew to St Louis for the 2005 International Photobooth Convention. In addition to being kind hosts and great people, they also had the wisdom to introduce me to Ted Drewe’s, home of the ‘concrete,’ the frozen custard concoction so solid that it won’t spill out even when they turn it upside-down. Ted Drewe’s is pretty much all I can talk about with anyone who mentions that they’re from St Louis, and it’s always a must when I’m in town.

Missouri is also home to the wonders of Branson and the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, both highlights of the 1997 roadtrip, which was the first time I’d visited the state. Aimee and I went to a Cardinals game at what is now the “old” Busch Stadium in the summer of 2002, and we visited Branson on one of our summer 2006 road trips as well.

Halfway there.
