Kiwis and caves

Bronson Caves

The view above is from atop the ridge above the Bronson Caves in Griffith Park, where we went for a hike this morning, in the bit of sunshine before it started raining. We explored the caves (home to TV’s Batman, Little House on the Prairie, and Star Trek: Voyager, apparently) and checked out the views of the Hollywood sign, Griffith Observatory, and the houses perched precariously on the surrounding hillsides.

Bronson Caves

Last night, Michael and I enjoyed a marathon Jon Brion show at Largo, from 10:30 until nearly 2:00 am, with two full sets that ranged from solo instrumental pieces to covers to very involved multi-instrumental looped works, to the end of the night, by which point he was only playing Cole Porter songs, one after the other. Michael observed that he really seems to be more concerned about entertaining himself, or staving off his own boredom, and the audience’s enjoyment is sort of a by-product. I think it’s true, though it sounds worse than it really is. For the second set, he brought up Liam Finn to play some songs of his own, which Brion accompanied on drums. A great show, and with the rumors I overheard about a possible Largo move, perhaps one of the last at that location? I hope not.
