Howser weekend?

Oak Glen

It was fun, actually, thanks for asking. We let our buddy Huell guide the way, and headed an hour and a half east of West Hollywood to experience apple picking in Oak Glen. We also experienced waiting in line at Law’s Oak Glen Coffee Shop, eating their delicious apple pie for breakfast, buying apple bread, tasting apple cider, and generally soaking in the apple-ness of the place. It was a great way to spend the morning, though I’m a little sad we didn’t experience the mini donuts or the noontime shootout.

As we headed back into L.A., we stopped at another of Huell’s recommendations, the Claremont Packing House in downtown Claremont. It’s a massive old citrus packing building that has been beautifully converted into shops, restaurants, and apartments. We had lunch at a Thai restaurant nearby and enjoyed browsing around inside the airy, sun-lit spaces.

We had to head back in time to have dinner and catch The Darjeeling Limited that evening, so we rushed through downtown Claremont, but we’ll be back soon for some downtown strolling and jazz and fondue at the Packing House.

More photos of the day here.

We’re off to Seattle this weekend for Gavin’s stateside wedding celebration; it’ll be only the second time I’ve seen him since freshman year of college, and it ought to be a fun time hanging out with some old high school friends – but not before Lebowski Fest Friday night here in Hollywood, which should be an experience.
