Not a particularly august month

Summer is a pretty much just a construct in southern California, but it does mean vacation time for the teaching half of the family. Aimee was gone all of last week and will be taking off again this weekend for another week, which has meant lots of movies and underwhelming meals for me.

We had a tough time of it at trivia on Tuesday, falling down a bit on the last question (the ten states admitted to the union most recently), necessitating a tiebreaker for third place, which we promptly lost. Who knew Battlefield Earth made more than $10 million on its opening weekend? The last time we went, though, we had a great night, winning it all and not missing a single question.

Home Movie Day was this past weekend, and was a lot of fun and a rousing success. We had more than 40 submitted films, and around 100 people on the audience. The only minus for me was when the film I was inspecting fell off the rewind right when I was being filmed, very close up and in HD, by a cameraman for “Good Morning America.” I just hope they don’t use that moment.

We currently have no internet at home; this entry was composed, and not that painstakingly, actually, on my iPhone.
