Today marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Georges Remi, a.k.a. Hergé, the creator of Tintin. The U.S. is still not much of a Tintin consumer, which is fine by me, but it means there isn’t much going on in terms of celebration. I can’t be at the reading and slideshow in New York, so I’ll just wear my Tintin socks instead. There’s been a flurry of news about the upcoming movies, the new museum, and revelations about Hergé’s life; I hope it’ll mean that Tintin will live on for a few more generations, rather than that he will be exploited and over-done in this one and then forever thought of as a Steven Spielberg movie character. I made the above timeline, with one Tintin for each book he appeared in, at some point in college.
