Walking the canyon

Nice roof

This weekend, we tried out another walking tour from our Walking L.A. book (it had been a few months since our last one), this time in Lower Beachwood Canyon in Hollywood. The walk was really pleasant and wound its way around the narrow streets, past houses of vaguely Mediterranean design, plus a few outlying castles and modernist homes. We enjoyed the views, and had lunch at the 101 Coffee Shop afterwards.

Wow

Saturday night, we went to a concert to benefit Aimee’s school, where a mind-boggling combination of musicians took the stage to perform together, most likely for the first time: take one drummer from the Police, add the lead singer from Kiss, throw in one third of Crosby, Stills, and Nash, the guitarist from the Foo Fighters, the man who wrote “Like a Virgin,” and top it off with the one and only Solomon Burke. It was really strange, and a lot of fun. Once again, only in L.A.
