Six month report

February 1st, 2007 · No Comments

It’s been six months since we moved here, and I have to say it feels like we’ve been here longer than that. I feel pretty comfortable getting around, I know what I’m doing in my job for the most part, and things feel pretty normal. At the same time, it doesn’t take much going out of our way for us to be encountering something new, since there are so many neighborhoods we’ve never been to. Pretty much any time anyone asks a question that begins with ‘Have you been to…’ I can answer ‘no’ before they get to the place in question. We’ve still never really been to the beach. I haven’t gone for a run in the Santa Monica Mountains. We haven’t been on a studio tour. We’ve never eaten at Zankou Chicken, or Clifton’s Cafeteria, or a dozen other places that we’re always being recommended. We haven’t been to LACMA, or the Getty Villa, or a bunch of other smaller museums around town.

That said, I feel like we have done a lot of fun stuff in the last six months, from Pasadena to Big Bear to San Simeon and all around Santa Monica, Hollywood, and downtown Los Angeles. So it feels like it’s been awhile, yet not very long, at the same time, which is right on, I guess. These days I’m gearing up for a half marathon this weekend, with two months to go before my marathon training officially starts, and I’m looking down the barrel of my 32nd birthday next week. We’re halfway through season one of ‘The Wire,’ and it’s just as compelling as everyone has said. We took part in our first pub trivia night out here, which was a lot of fun and we hope to do again soon. We’re going to see Babel tonight, as I work towards getting most of the major nominees under my belt before the show in three weeks. We’ve got a birthday trip to Las Vegas planned for next weekend, then a busy rest of February, and before you know it, it’s spring again. Except it already feels like spring, and has since about November. Ah, southern California.
