We spent day two of the four-day weekend on another walking your, this time of Larchmont Village, which was very enjoyable. It was less activity-filled than yesterday’s, but brought us by a lot of interesting houses and through some neighborhoods we’d never have otherwise seen. More photos here.

Floating holiday
December 29th, 2006 · Comments Off on Floating holiday
I found out on Thursday that I still had my ‘floating holiday’ for 2006 left to use, and only one day left in which to use it, so I took today off to spend with Aimee, who returned from Boston last night. We started with breakfast at Eat Well on Beverly, a place Aimee runs […]

A busy end to a busy year
December 27th, 2006 · Comments Off on A busy end to a busy year
It’s been a packed few weeks as we head toward the end of 2007, and though it feels strange to be back at work between Christmas and New Year’s, here I am. Aimee left the week before last to spend two weeks in Boston, and I used my time wisely, renting as many videos and […]

Because even Santa Claus can’t break free of L. Ron Hubbard’s grasp on Hollywood. As seen driving home from the Egyptian last night.

Hollywood party? Check.
December 15th, 2006 · Comments Off on Hollywood party? Check.
Last night we attended a party benefiting a charity giving toys to kids, through a couple of friends of colleagues of friends and so on. I thought as we drove up, further and further into the Hollywood Hills, “where oh where will we park?” Silly boy, of course, Valet of the Dolls were there to […]

The Appropriate Financial Man
December 14th, 2006 · Comments Off on The Appropriate Financial Man
In this installation of the ongoing saga of Karen Freeman, we learn about Karen’s uncle from Cleveland, her reading habits, and her concerns about Monopoly. Not monopolies, but Monopoly. She’s definitely not running out of things to say this time around, and I don’t get the sense that she’s just spinning her wheels as we’ve […]

Neon history
December 11th, 2006 · Comments Off on Neon history
After reading an L.A. Times article (which I can’t seem to find now) about the possibly imminent closing of the Museum of Neon Art downtown, Aimee and I headed there on Sunday morning for a look around. It’s not a large space, but they’ve got a great collection of treasures from area restaurants, motels, and […]

Gingerbread House ’06
December 10th, 2006 · Comments Off on Gingerbread House ’06
This kit wasn’t quite as good as last year’s; no gingerbread people to go alongside the house, no convenient troughs to hold up the walls while they dried. But we made do, and added a larger base to accommodate our paths and lake. Seems some of our roof tiles have fallen out of place, but […]

Marathon time again
December 9th, 2006 · Comments Off on Marathon time again
This week, I finally pulled the trigger and decided to run another marathon. My first, in Chicago back in the fall of 2004, was a great experience, and I think I’d like to try it again. I’m not sure I can really improve my time, as I’ve chosen hilly San Francisco as my next course, […]

A new look for ’07
December 7th, 2006 · Comments Off on A new look for ’07
It’s a little early, but I’ve redesigned the site, made it a little wider and a little less cluttered. There will probably be some problems and things I’ve forgotten to fix; let me know if you come across any. Still working on that banner, too.

This always happens…

When a movie is adapted from a book, we always get inundated with a new batch of books with movie-themed cover art. Nevertheless, this is still a little creepy.
More magic from Karen
December 5th, 2006 · Comments Off on More magic from Karen
Last spring, I posted the first of four voicemails received by another lucky object of Karen Freeman’s attention, but with the busy summer of moving and getting settled here in L.A., I never posted any of the others. Now that I’ve got a moment, and as I’m no longer on her list of people to […]

Saturday at the Rose Bowl
December 3rd, 2006 · Comments Off on Saturday at the Rose Bowl
Michael and his dad were kind enough to pass on their extra ticket to the UCLA-USC game to me yesterday, and what a game it was. The day started when I met them at Michael’s apartment at 11:45, and I arrived back home just before 7:00, so it was a bit of a long day, […]

Thanksgiving out here
November 29th, 2006 · Comments Off on Thanksgiving out here
It’s nearly the end of November, and we’ve finally experienced a day that might by any stretch of the imagination be called ‘cold.’ Or rather, ‘not hot,’ as it’s actually only 57° out, which is not at all cold, but somehow, with the wind, actually feels sort of cold, sadly enough. I’m on day six […]
