A quick month

October 8th, 2005 · No Comments

So as of yesterday, I’ve been in school for a month. It hasn’t really seemed that long, but I’ve had three rotations, in various areas of the archive, and I’ve picked up a lot of skills I didn’t have before. I even got photographed for the local paper doing a film inspection, but they didn’t use the photo. Maybe my shirt was too bright.

Between yesterday and last night, I think the temperature dropped about 30 degrees. It’s now a whopping 48° at noon, and it’s been raining and drizzling for the past day and a half. The ground is covered in wet leaves, though the fall colors, in their first stages, have been really nice. This might be the beginning of the end; it is October, after all.

Last week, we had a wine and cheese party at the house; please note the actual other people in our house besides us:

Aimee was gone last weekend, so I hung out by myself, visited the Old Toad for some English pub food and cask-conditioned ale, and tested out another of Rochester’s many movie theaters, this one setting me back a whopping dollar-fifty for an afternoon second-run matinee. My kind of town. We’ve visited five cinemas so far, with many more to try out.

Tonight, we’ll be totally out of place at the 100th Anniversary Gala to celebrate the opening of Eastman’s house in 1905. Having bought my own tux for the Helsinki trip this spring, I’ve decided to take all opportunities to wear it, so when I heard ‘black tie,’ and ‘staff discount tickets,’ I said ‘sign me up.’ Aimee’s got her ball gown all ready, and we’re hoping the weather cooperates for the fireworks that are scheduled. Dancing, an open bar, a barbershop quartet, and a silent auction, sounds like fun.

Since we have Monday off, we decided to do our Western New York weekend starting Sunday, when we’ll head to Corning (for the Glass Museum) and Ithaca (for its Gorges-ness), and then on to Cooperstown (for the Hall of Fame) on Monday, and then back home.
