Dateline Reykjavik

My first international post will be brief. I arrived here in Reykjavik this morning at around 6:30, and Ásdís picked me up at the airport in Keflavik. The flight was really brief, under five hours, and I barely slept. Icelandair was fine, but I feel like they’ve been scrimping since the last time I flew them two years ago – the only drink that was free was water. I’ve never heard of paying for soda on an airplane. Anyway, it’ss crisp and gorgeous here, and was bright as day as we flew in. We’re only a few weeks away from the longest day of the year, so it’s bound to be light out most of the day.

We stopped for food at a bakery, picked up some pastries like they sell at Carberry’s, and went to Ásdís’ house, not far from her old one where we stayed last time. I picked up her spare set of keys from her Spanish/Swiss friend Rafael, who lives at her old apartment, by walking over there, walking in the open front door, and knocking on his bedroom door. He opened the door, wearing his comforter around his shoulders, with a huge head of frizzy hair. I think he was still asleep. Anyway, now I’ve got a set of keys, and I’m wandering the town and plan to head to a few museums.

We drove by the tiny-looking place where the Pixies will play tonight, and I got very excited. Apparently they played about 30 songs last night, and the concert got rave reviews. Can’t wait. Off to explore now.
