Visiting Boston

March 6th, 2004 · No Comments

Living and working in an eight-block stretch in Cambridge, I rarely get into Boston anymore. This morning, Aimee and Jack picked me up (well, really, it was Aimee, because Jack was in his car seat in the back, busy pointing out every “car!” and “”truck!” that passed us by) and we headed to the New England Aquarium, which I’d never visited before. We got in at opening time and managed to avoid most of the rush while enjoying the tidepool, the giant turtle, and the penguin feeding:

On our way back to the car, we spotted some of the Big Dig’s deconstruction process, as the elevated Central Artery begins to come down. (This Boston Globe graphic shows how they do it). The elevated roadway is seen at the right, then a support remaining in the middle, and then nothing at all on the left:

I had a brunch for work to go to on Pinckney Street in Beacon Hill after the Aquarium, and we drove around Louisburg Square, chock full of Suburbans with tinted windows and Maryland license plates, manned by Secret Service men keeping an eye on the Kerry residence.

I headed up to the roof before leaving the brunch, and had a nice view of the State House from up there.
