Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate

Workin’ on resting my knee by the above methods (except compression, because I don’t think I really need that), as well as chicken and cashews, coffee oreo ice cream with Heath Bar topping, and the Oscars. All that together sounds kind of nasty, but it’s been most helpful in recovering from the Sheraton Hyannis Half Marathon this morning. The weather this time around was perfect, a huge step up from last year’s disastrous snow, ice, freezing rain, turning the race into a weird obstacle course steeplechase sort of thing. That and some decent training this year helped me take thirteen minutes off my time from last year. Woo hoo! So now I get to take the week off and think about what it’ll be like to run that distance…and then run it all over again, at the marathon in October. Aimee has sternly suggested I wear the medal they gave all finishers for the rest of the day. I got some great looks at J.P. Licks with it around my neck; I didn’t get any free ice cream, though. I had a great time in the race, listening to other people’s stories about running, engagement parties, restaurant chains their parents have bought, their friends who are jealous that they’re still single, and many other topics. Now I just have to keep it up until Chicago.
