T 2004

Three things Aimee and I learned about the T tonight:

1) It now costs $1.25. Where have I been since January 3, 2004? Answer: not on the T.

2) Dan was right: some Red Line trains now have stickers on all the door windows that say “These doors do not recycle.” Even if we assume they mean something about the doors not opening again once they’ve started closing, isn’t there a better way to get that point across?

3) The new Breda Type 8 cars on the Green Line (aka “The T of the Future”) are finally running on the C Line up Beacon Street. This page features the somewhat updated story on these cars and why it’s taken seven years since they were built for them to be implemented successfully in Boston. Under the “Chronology of Type 8 Events” on this page, the author notes: “December 11, 2003: Revenue operation of Type 8s on Beacon St. resumed for first time since July 2000.”

So, in the almost four years I’ve lived here, the price of the T has gone from 85? to $1.25, and the trains that were three years old and barely running are now seven years old and still sort of barely running.
