Planter’s Punch

Amanda, Dan, Aimee, and I finally made the pilgrimage up Route 1 to Saugus, the home of Kowloon, which has to be the biggest restaurant I’ve been to outside Vegas. It was a little on the rainy side driving up, but the illuminated Polynesian hut was like a beacon to us hungry travelers, and the Phantom Gourmet Explorer parked outside told us we must be in the right place. The menu was fittingly huge, and we barely had enough room on our table for the Saugus Wings. But we managed.

We opted for the “Tiki Lagoon” room, “a favorite of couples and families alike,” according to the website, and found it fairly empty, except for the large party on the other side of the room, which is actually the “Volcano Bay Room.” Most of those people were sitting inside the ship, complete with lifeboats. A party celebrating Chinese New Year was occupying the 500-capacity “Luau Room,” and accounted for the glut of cars in the parking lot. I’m not sure what accounted for the large table full of Patriots Super Bowl paraphernalia for sale in the lobby, except that we were in Saugus, and that’s Patriots Country.
